Police Helicopter Assists In Putting Out California Fire

Byron, CA - On Wednesday, at about 1:30 PM, Sheriff's Office STARR 3 helicopter received a request for assistance from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District regarding a vegetation fire in Byron. CON Fire asked if STARR 3 would launch the initial fire attack by dropping water using the helicopter's fire bucket. CON Fire advised that numerous homes and structures were in imminent danger and some had already started to burn. Within several minutes of arriving at the scene, the 144 gallon fire bucket was attached to the bottom of the helicopter. STARR 3 dropped approximately 40 buckets of water on fire extinguishing some of the flames and saving one residential structure. This incident consisted of numerous fires totaling over 500 acres in size. As of this morning, the fires were 80% contained.
