Putin Warns Ukraine

June 7
Putin warns Ukraine against launching an offensive during the World Cup.

Zakhar Prilepin, a Russian writer and advisor to the freedom fighters in Donetsk region, asked Putin during a televised question and answer session to comment on the possibility of Ukraine launching military action during the World Cup.

“I hope that there won’t be any provocations but, if it happens, I think it would have very serious consequences for Ukrainian statehood in general,” Putin said.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Turchinov, the nonelected President of Ukraine after the "revolution of dignity" in 2014 who launched the war against East Ukraine answered Putin,

"Regardless of the groans of frightened Russian mercenaries and the threats of the Russian president, the Ukrainian military will act adequately to threats, and the Ukrainian state is and will be, regardless of the maniacal desires of the imperial revenge-seekers".

Russia is hosting the World Cup in 11 Russian cities for a month beginning on June 14. One of the cities Rostov on Don is only 100 km from the Ukrainian border.
