Almost 2.5 million tickets have been sold. As of June 7, according to the official FIFA site, Russian fans have bought (871,797) tickets. More than half the tickets went to football fans from other countries, the top ten of which are: USA (88,825), Brazil (72,512), Colombia (65,234), Germany (62,541), Mexico (60,302), Argentina (54,031), Peru (43,583), China (40,251), Australia (36,359) and England (32,362). 54% of tickets were distributed among fans from abroad despite calls for a boycott. These figures are not final, since reserved ticket sales continue until July 15.
According to The New York Times, the 2018 World Cup will bring FIFA a record 6.1 billion dollars. The last world championship in Brazil brought in 4.8 billion dollars.
Betting odds have Brazil as the favourite at 4.5/1, Germany at 4.75/1, Spain at 6/1, France at 6.5/1, Argentina at 9.5/1, Belgium at 12/1, England at 18/1, Uruguay at 25/1, Portugal at 28/1, Croatia at 33/1, Colombia at 40/1, host country RUSSIA at 50/1 and Panama and Saudi Arabia trailing the list at 1000/1 among the 32 teams competing.
